A message from Gyro International
Hello,
Way did our founders, in 1912, chose the Gyroscope as our name/symbol? The reason is because it “maintains its balance regardless of outside influences – not unlike the benefits of friendship”. It represents power (power of our friendships), poise (steadiness of our friendships) and purpose (balance of our friendships). The Gyro mission is to offer our members and friends a setting to socialize and have fun. Gyro carries with it no label of race, creed, political or other club affiliations. Gyro is a satisfying state of mind achieved through friendship, evidenced by a constructive, coherent fellowship, strengthened by tolerance, good will and helpfulness.
I can state with confidence that our current political climate is testing the Gyros will of and purpose for the Gyro organization. Whether you are a Liberal, Democrat, Conservative, Republican, New Democrat, Libertarian, Green, Independent or Bloc Quebecois you are being tested. Can friendship supersede politics? Can Gyros still get together and not discuss politics, religion, prejudices? I think that after 113 years of friendship we have proven that we can do anything we collectively put our minds to.
At our meetings, whether on zoom or in person, let’s get back to our roots. Let’s talk about work, family, vacations/travel, hobbies, restaurants/food, the future of Gyro and any other non-controversial subjects that can ruin the harmony of the evening/day. Let’s get back to our fraternity of fun and friendship. I am sure that in the past 113 years Gyros have been tested before and will be tested again. We survived the past and we will survive the future. All it takes is power, poise and purpose.
